Diamante Poem (Synonym & Antonym)

Do you know what a diamante poem is?
It's a type of poem that is written in the shape of a diamond.
They were first made by an American poet, Iris McClellan Tiedt.

Diamante poems always follow this order-

There are two types of diamante poems: synonym poems and antonym poems. Today, I'll show you both.

I think these poems are attractive because they are easy to read and fun to write. I tried making my own diamante poems.

First, the synonym poem.

FLOWER
PRETTY  DELICATE
SWAYING  BLOOMING  ARRANGING
STEM         PETAL         LEAF         TRUNK
GROWING  BREATHING  SHELTERING
FRESH  BIG
TREE

Next, the antonym poem.

HANDS
GRACEFUL  COMPLEX
GRABBING  WRITING  MAKING
FINGERS     WRIST     ANKLE     TOES
WALKING  RUNNING  STOMPING
SIMPLE  CUTE
FEET

Pretty simple, right?
Diamante poems are a great way to spend free time.
I encourage you to try writing your own-DIY!

Good Luck!!

Photo Essay : A Summary Of ANIMAL FARM, by George Orwell

For today's post, I'll show you a quick summary of George Orwell's <Animal Farm> in a photo essay.

The characters in <Animal Farm> all appear to be based on actual Russian people of the time. George Orwell showed the process of how Stalin got to rule Russia. When I first read this book, I had only thought of it as an interesting, well-written novel. However, I later realized-while learning about Russian history-that it also showed us about Russia. (GO HERE TO FIND OUT WHICH CHARACTER REPRESENTS WHO)

The most respected animal of Mr.Jones' farm(Old Major) calls them a song called 'Beasts Of England' which shows his desire. He hopes the animals become able to stand up for their own rights. Old Major dies three nights after this happens, and all the animals remember this song from that day on.

Then, the rebellion of the animals happens suddenly. Mr.Jones is chased from is farm, and the animals feel triumph over their victory.

The farm is now called 'Animal Farm', and soon it prospers. Three pigs(Snowball, Napoleon, and Squealer) are in charge of managing the system, and every animal agrees to 7 commandments that are made.
They are:
1. Whatever goes upon 2 legs is an enemy.

2. Whatever goes upon four legs, or has wings, is a friend.

3. No animal shall wear clothes.

4. No animal shall sleep in a bed.

5. No animal shall drink alcohol.

6. No animal shall kill any other animal.

7. All animals are equal.

The pigs teach themselves to read and write, so these commandments are written on the side or the barn.

As Animal Farm thrives, Mr.Jones and some other farmers try to get the farm back, but are defeated again. As for inside the farm, Snowball and Napoleon both want to "rule". On the night of the election Snowball gives an eloquent speech, while Napoleon gives only a short one. After this, he lets out a strange noise, and nine dogs he had been training come out and aggressively chase Snowball away.

After Snowball is expelled from Animal Farm, Napoleon starts treating others harshly, and lashes them to do arduous work. He also rewrites history, and says that Snowball is trying to destroy Animal Farm. Snowball suddenly becomes the "bad guy" to the farm, and is even believed to have been cowardly in the animals' battles. At one point, Napoleon even violently kills animals after forcing them to confess having united with Snowball.

There was a loyal animal on the farm named Boxer. Boxer was astonishingly strong, so did significant deeds for Animal Farm. However, he becomes weak, and breaks his leg just before retiring. Seeing this, Napoleon sells his most loyal worker to be made into glue in order to receive money for his whisky.

During all this, the 7 Commandments are being changed, one by one, by Squealer. Squealer also teaches the sheep to always sing "four legs good, two legs better".

In the end, all the 7 commandments are replaced by
"All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others."
No animals has any proof that this was re-written, and later they see Napoleon and other pigs drinking whisky with humans, walking around on two legs.

"The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which."
-last sentence of <Animal Farm>

My all-time favorite book is <Animal Farm>, and I guess you can tell why. I'm sure all of you can tell why. I'm sure all of will enjoy it as much as I did, and I want to share this great novel with everyone.

My Bucket List

Have you ever seen the movie, <The Bucket List>?
It's a very interesting movie showing people who have just learned their death is going to be soon, and try everything on their bucket list.
(IF YOU'RE INTERESTED, WATCH THE TRAILER HERE)

A bucket list is a list of goals, experiences or things you want to try or do before you die. The idea comes from the expression "kick the bucket" which means to die. (GLPS 21 Blog-Miss Angela) Do you have any things you want to  do before you die? Today, I want to tell you about my bucket list.

First, I want to publish at least 20 of my novels. My dream is to be a novelist, so the most important goal in my life is this. I also hope many people can learn many different things or lessons by reading my novels.

Second, I want to visit Antarctica someday. In my self-introduction(click here to view), I said that I like visiting different places. I think Antarctica will be a great place to go because not everybody can.

The third thing on my bucket list is also about traveling. However, this is not that I want to go to a specific place. You're probably confused by now, so I'll tell you what I mean. I want to travel to any country-besides Korea or Japan or China etc.-with only my friends. I believe this will be very fun:)

Fourth, I want to ride the halfpipe by snowboard. I think this is really cool, but  I can't do it yet, so it's on my bucket list. I'm pretty sure every one of you feels astonished by the snowboarder in the picture below. I hope someday(maybe in my 20s) I'll be good enough at snowboarding to achieve this goal.

Fifth, I wish to have my own pet. Even though I can't right now because my parents don't approve of the idea, I'm going to do so as an adult. Pets can be really good friends and companions to people.

Sixth (and last), one of my goals is to go a a "Bigshow". This is the word meaning "Bigbang Concert". My favorite K-Pop star is Bigbang, so I really really really would be pleased if I am ever able to go.

Thank you for reading my bucket list!
Do you think any will be fun to you as well?
So, why don't you start one on your own-right now?!

Movie Review

For my second post, I would like to introduce you to an old movie called <The Princess Bride>. This movie was made in 1987 and was directed and produced by Rob Reiner.

The genre of <the Princess Bride> is a fairy tale-action-fantasy-comedy-romance. It's a story being told by a grandfather to a grandson, and this is where we can tell this story is a fairy tale.

The characters in the story are Buttercup, Westley, Indigo, Fezzik, Vizzini, and Prince Humperdink.

BUTTERCUP

WESTLEY

INIGO

FEZZIK

VIZZINI

PRINCE HUMPERDINK

The plot of the story is very interesting. I'll tell you a summary of it.
Buttercup and Westley fall in love, but Westley doesn't have the money to marry Buttercup. He sets off, but never comes back. Buttercup hears that Westley was killed by a pirate, so she refuses to leave her house for five years. She becomes engaged to Prince Humperdink. However, she is kidnapped by Vizzini, Indigo, and Fezzik. Westley comes to save her, but covers his face in a black mask, and acts as he is the pirate who killed Westley. Buttercup becomes enraged, and pushes Westley, still covered in a mask. She tells him as she pushes him to die like Westley did, and finally realizes that the man is Westley, because he replied "As you wish!" while rolling down the cliff-like hill. "As you wish!" is what he used to always answer to Buttercup before they had parted. On the way, they meet Prince Humperdink, and he catches Westley. Buttercup makes a suggestion that if Prince Humperdink swears to escort Westley back to his ship, she will go with the prince as he wishes. Prince Humperdink agrees, and Buttercup's marriage with him is scheduled. But Buttercup knows that the prince didn't let Westley free, and tells him to send people to find Westley to come for her. If Westley comes, she says, she will not marry Prince Humperdink, but if he doesn't come, the marriage will be held. Prince Humperdink promises, but again doesn't keep the promise. In the meanwhile, Westley is held captive in Prince Humperdink's secret hiding place. There, he is tortured. Indigo and Fezzik, who have became Buttercup and Westley's side, comes to rescue him, and they bring the unconscious Westley to Miracle Max. Miracle Max makes a medicine for Westley, and Westley wakes up. Then, Indigo, Fezzik, and Westley go to the castle of Prince Humperdink. They are not able to stop the marriage, but both had not said "I do", so the marriage isn't valid. Indigo has his revenge on the six-fingered person(Rugen) who killed his father. Buttercup, Westley, Indigo, and Fezzik ride white horses away, and the sun is setting in the background.

The moral of <The Princess Bride> is that true love waits forever. But other than just that, I thought about the qualities of leadership I could learn from the characters. And I could tell that Westley had a bit of leadership. His quick thinking, fast actions, and the way Indigo and Fezzik followed him told me that Westley is a leader.

The twist of this movie is when as the grandfather leaves, he says "As you wish." just like Westley did. And then the movie ends.

My main opinion about this movie was that the places in the movie ware interesting. There were places like the "Forest of Thieves", the "Fire Swamp", the "Cliffs of Insanity", and the "Pit of Despair". In the "Fire Swamp", there were huge rats called the "ROUS(rodents of unusual size)", and quicksand called "Lightning Sand". These places were new and were very fresh even though the movie was made in 1987.

FOREST OF THIEVES

FIRE SWAMP

CLIFFS OF INSANITY

PIT OF DESPAIR

My personal favorite scene in the movie was when Indigo had his revenge on the six-fingered man. I especially liked when he repeatedly said to Rugen as he dueled, "Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die." It was thrilling to me the most. I liked the movie overall, and want to watch it again.

I really want to recommend <The Princess Bride> to you because since it's a fairy tale, it well never go out of date. Also, I think most people will enjoy it because it includes in various genres. Try <The Princess Bride>!! I assure you that you won't regret it!

Self-Introduction : 3 Things I Know To Be True

This is my first post, so I want to start with a self-introduction about myself.

1. 30
2. Novels
3. Snowboarding

First, 30, Can you guess what this is about?
It means that I've been on an airplane more than 30 times, I love to travel, so I have been to almost 10 countries. I think traveling is exciting, and I always get to experience new cultures.

Next, Novels.
Because my dream is to write and translate novels, my biggest hobby is reading and writing them. It's very interesting, and I want to share my thoughts with people through my novels.

Last but definitely not least, Snowboarding.
Every winter, I enjoy snowboarding with my dad. At first, I was scared of riding it, but it's quite thrilling to get better and better. Even though I was disappointed there was no snowboarding class this camp, I'm also enjoying skiing. I hope by the end of camp, I'll be able to go both snowboarding and skiing.(So I'm looking forward to next Winter!)

This is the end of my self-introduction.
Thank you for reading patiently until the end, and I'll be back soon with my next blog post.
